Thato Kgatlhanye is a young South African and the founder of Repurpose Schoolbags, an environmentally friendly innovation made from upcycled plastic shopping bags with built-in solar technology that charges up during the day and transforms into a light at night.
A Trailblazer would always identify a challenge in the society and think of a way to solve the challenge.
Thato Kgatlhanye Identified a problem in her community and became a solution provider through her innovative thinking. Many kids in her community had plastic bags as book bags, She grew up studying with candles because there was no electricity in her village which is one crucial facility a student needs for studying and completing assignments from school.With the built-in solar technology that charges up during the day and transforms into a light at night, the bags allow them to study after dark in homes without electricity. Yes! the bags acted as reading lamps at night Genius! The bags are also designed with reflective material,so that the children carrying the bag are visible to traffic during their walk to and from school.
Her Innovation targets school children in underprivileged communities.
Her innovation have also solved the challenge of South Africa Landscapes from plastic bags waste littering by the collection and recycling of the plastics bags to produce “Repurpose schoolbags”
